About

Poet Alejandro Aguirre is an MFA candidate at Boston University. In 2023, he judged Poetry's annual prizes. He has also served as editor in chief at Tea Literary & Arts Magazine and poetry editor at Clinch Literary Magazine. He was twice a finalist for the Atlanta Review's Dan Veach Prize for Younger Poets and received honorable mention for Lyric Magazine's Poetry Contest. His poems are published in RattleLouisiana LiteratureI-70 Review, Hawai’i Pacific Review, and elsewhere.

    Support young poets on Saturday, April 15th, 3-5 PM as judges (including Alejandro Aguirre) inaugurate North Central Florida’s first Youth Poet Laureate. This event will include a poetry reading by the Youth Poet Laureate finalists and is free and open to the public.

    “The Poetics of Resistance in Gainesville and the States” will explore the place of poetry in response to a history of segregation. Following a discussion of examples from Natasha Trethewey, Rowan Ricardo Phillips, and Jericho Brown, Aguirre will lead patrons in composing a collaborate poem.
